Izabela Carlucci (b. 1989) is a Lithuanian-Norwegian multidisciplinary artist with a Master’s Degree in Stained Glass and Site Specific Art from Vilnius Art Academy in Lithuania. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York as an Autopsy Technician and Morgue Attendant.
I work with a wide range of materials, from glass to painting and photography. Craft is an important part of my artistic practice. I consider myself a draughtswoman more than anything else, often returning to ink on paper.
This work is characterized by harsh lines, a dark muted palette, and sometimes repulsive textures in an encaustic medium. My worldview informs the aesthetic; rich in nihilistic cynicism. This outlook is not without a concrete source. For the past few years, I have been quite literally surrounded by death via my work in the morgue. The witnessed violence, illness, and fragility of the human body dictate my subject matter.
In this exhibition I am presenting selected works created in 2024-2025. Awestruck by the absurdity of it all, I am interested in exploring transgression, iconoclasm, and violence in art and culture. With a small touch of humor, I am working with the concepts of body horror, abjection, and the aesthetic intransigence of subculture. - Izabela Carlucci
